Slum Rehabilitation Scheme

‘Slum Rehabilitation Scheme’ is a scheme for rehabilitation of hutment dwellers of one or more slum areas in which the landowner or society of hutment dwellers or a developer redevelops the slum area in-situ. Typically, it involves building a rehabilitation component (comprising housing for the slum dwellers, transit camps, infrastructure and amenities) and an additional inventory that can be sold and monetised at market rates to cross-subsidise the development of the rehabilitation component.

SRS was notified for Thane in 2016 vide a notification in public gazette. Appendix S was added to Regulation 165 of Thane DCR. Today, SRS for the whole of Maharashtra is given in UDCPR Sec 14.7 and these provisions override all previous provisions.
