The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has been authorised by the state government to conduct a survey of all slums in Mumbai and Thane. As per a gazette notification issued last Thursday, the\u00a0<\/span>SRA<\/a>\u00a0will now appoint officers for various zones across the city to carry out the survey and issue eligibility certificates to slum dwellers for free housing.<\/span><\/p>\n

An affordable home must be equal to (or more than) 300 sq ft carpet area. Today the lowest cost of MHADA tenement is Rs. 10,000\/sq ft. Thus the MHADA cost of a 300 sq ft basic unit would cost Rs. 30 lakh (and that too, far away).
